A Little Bit of History

Rather than materializing from nowhere, Pat’s Annual Canoe Trip was the final step in an amazing evoluntionary process.  Where to begin...

First of all, I am the Pat in Pat’s Annual Canoe Trip (PACT).  When I became old enough to drive I started working for Gene and Linda Clore, owners of Clore Bros. Outfitters on the Rappahannock River in Fredericksburg, Va.  Clore Bros. is a canoeing outfitter of about 70 canoes (no one really knows how many) that shuttles people, canoes, kayaks, and gear up the Rappahannock and Rapidan Rivers.  Both of these rivers are amazing and valuable state resources.

After my freshman year in highschool I spent the rest of my summers working for the Clores on the river.  If I had time after work I would take out a canoe as the sun set and do some fishing.  I also made several day and overnoght trips with my friends.

Once I started college we kicked it up a notch.  I started to get more and more people to go canoeing with me and it became something that we all could do to waste a day away.  Well, after my sophmore year at James Madison University we decided to make it official.  The lackluster and generally unimaginative title we decided to give the trip turned out to be no indication of what was to come.

I won’t spoil the stories with a brief description here so you’ll have to visit wahc page to get the run down.  So anyway, the first trip went so well that we made it annual.  This year will be Pat’s 5th Annual Canoe Trip, and the group is as fired up as ever.
